The inlet to the city, some cruise ships dock sometimes along the quays

Welcome back to my photo series! This time we take another look at Sweden, in this City special Extravaganza! πŸ™‚ We visit Stockholm, the capital. The city started forming to be a real town around the year 1187, so it wasn’t born yesterday… Β πŸ™‚

I hope you enjoy this little town where I grew up. I have a lot of personal history from this city, so I wanted to show it to you from its best side. Since it is winter, we won’t take the boats out to the archipelago, that will have to wait until spring! But, as you can see, there is plenty of water all around town here, so we will not miss the sea too much.

Maybe all you know about Stockholm is the term “Stockholm Syndrome”? πŸ™‚ That’s too bad, cause even if the city itself “only” has around 1.4 million inhabitants, it is said that it does get around 1 million visitors from abroad, each year. Let’s have a look to see if we can figure out why they come here….

And we value democracy so highly that even birds get their own Parliament… No, seriously, I don’t know what is up with this… I’ve never seen so many birds gathered at once, there were literally hundreds of birds, across from our Parliament building… Β πŸ™‚Β

To the right, the brown building, is the Royal Opera House, well worth a visit!

This statue was made to honor a great old King, “Karl XII”, who ruled here from the end of the 1600’s. He was said to be a great leader in the wars against neighboring countries at the time.

A member of the Royal Guard, stands on his post next to the City Castle. I had to blur out his face, cause maybe he doesn’t want to be a part of my blog… Β πŸ™‚

Now we have entered the Old Town, where there are some narrow, cobbled streets and alleys…

In the Old Town you can find some very beautiful old buildings

And also great details on the buildings, like this statue here on the front of a building. Isn’t it odd that this was the only statue on buildings, which I noticed on my photographing quest? And early in the morning I wrote that post where I talked about the shield maiden, remember? And here is another woman with a shield! I almost see this as a sign…! Β πŸ™‚Β
